What does open source change in practice?
It changes who can check the claims. The Tenvo client is AGPL-3.0, so the connection logic and the encryption can be read — by you, or by whoever runs your security review. Open code does not make software safer by itself; it makes the difference between a claim you believe and one you verify.
Is the free plan enough to evaluate with?
Enough to test whether connections work on your network, not enough to run on. It covers 30 devices, one session at a time and 2 hours of relay a day, for non-commercial use. For a real pilot with several technicians, Lite or Pro is the honest starting point.
What exactly is encrypted, and from whom?
Sessions are protected with TLS using a certificate issued per device. On direct peer-to-peer connections that is end-to-end and we cannot read the session. When a direct connection is impossible and the session goes through our relay, TLS terminates at the relay — we do not record or store session content, but we do not claim it is technically inaccessible there. The client is open source, so you can check this rather than take our word for it.
Can we run the relay ourselves?
Yes, the relay is self-hostable, and some organisations need that for internal policy reasons. Most do not: the managed relay is what the paid plans are for, and running your own means owning its uptime, certificates and updates. Worth choosing deliberately rather than by default.
